This past weekend, I had the joy of watching one of my most favorite people in the world, Sallie Reeves, get married! I loved each and every minute.
Sallie and I are dear friends from high school. As the end of college drew near and I had no idea what to do with my life, Sallie told me she was heading to DC, so rather than do the responsible thing and move where I had a job, I decided to go where Sallie was and ended up living with her for two years. It was glorious! She is so incredibly dear, compassionate, encouraging and filled with love. Through the years, Sallie has been such a gift to me!
Anyways, you know I love a good love story, and Sallie's and Chris' does not disappoint!
Just over a year ago, Sallie was house sitting a few miles outside of Charlottesville heading on a run. When all of a sudden, she came to a lake and noticed a familiar face--Chris! They didn't know each other that well, and were quite surprised to literally "run" into each other out in the country, but God knew exactly what He was doing.
The two talked for a a while, one thing led to another, and as they say, "The rest is history...."
What I love about their story is that when they ran into each other on that hot July afternoon, neither one of them was actively searching out a significant other. Finding each other that day was the last thing either of them expected. But God...
Sometimes, God knows exactly what we need when we need it. Though it caught them by surprise, it could not have been more perfect! And over the past year, it's been amazing to watch God do exceedingly and abundantly more than either of them could ask or imagine by giving them to one another. I'm beyond excited to see what's in store for these two!
I had the honor of reading scripture at their wedding and, once again, I almost didn't make it through. The passage they selected was Ephesians 3:14-21--the same passage we read at our wedding. It is such a beautiful passage for a new couple as they start their life together.
I had tears in my eyes as I read this to Sallie because watching Sallie marry Chris, I became increasingly aware of God's vast love for each one of us and blown away by the truth that without question, He is more than able to do, "immeasurably more than all we could ask or imagine."
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
