Rise and Shine

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.   Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”
Psalm 143:8 (NIV)

Don’t you just love the mornings??  Well…maybe some of us could use a little help with it.  There are some people who are morning people; I on the other hand am not. 

My friend Josie has made it her goal during Lent to wake up early and spend time with the Lord.  All week I’ve been thinking about how she has the will to pop out of bed…how does she resist the urge to snooze every six minutes for over an hour?  Not that it’s always easy for her, but Josie has chosen to be deliberate about her decision and honor the commitment that she’s made to the Lord.

I don’t want to be legalistic about this and I’m not trying to say that the only way to you to spend time with the Lord is in the morning, but I do think there is something special about the mornings.  Mornings are fresh and the start of a brand new day.  Lamentations 3 says that the Lord’s compassions are new every morning. 

Even if it’s just a quick three minute prayer, when we pray to the Lord first thing in the morning, we can experience His unfailing love and in turn,  desire to love Him more.  In the beginning, it may take a few days to be aware of His presence in the morning and strong cup of coffee, but just like we read yesterday, “Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay” (Habakkuk 2:3).      

I love the way David prays in this Psalm—Lord, today, I’m trusting in you.  This morning may I be aware of your unconditional love for me.  Today, I pray that you will lead me, direct me, and guide me.  Today, I pray that I will lift up my heart, soul, and mind to you.

May this be the cry of our hearts!

All We Need

“Whom have I in heaven but you?  And earth has nothing I desire besides you.  My heart and my flesh may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:25-26 (NIV)

An old babysitter who now leads worship for her church wrote a song based on this Psalm that says:

Whom have I in heaven, but you, my King
And Jesus, there is nothing I desire, but you


If all the earth were mine, you’d still be all that I desire
For you are my strength, you are my portion,
You are my ever-present help in time of need.
  I could never live without you;
my heart is in your hands,
I will trust your perfect love for me

This Psalm so beautifully depicts an earnest prayer to love the Lord more.  Crying out to the Lord and acknowledging that He is all we need, He is strengthens our hearts, and He is our portion.  What else do we need?

Lord, you are all that I need. There are so many times when I run after other things, but I know that only you can satisfy me.  I want the cry of my heart to be like the Psalmists—“earth has nothing I desire but you.”  As I continue to pray to love you more, I pray that you will strengthen my heart so that I may excellently love you.  Thank you Lord that you are truly all I need.  You are so worthy of my love.  I love you!

Wait For It

This verse doesn’t directly address love, but when a friend shared it with me I thought of our “love revolution”.
 

From the first email, I knew that this was the start of something big. I really believe that this challenge, this call to love, will change our lives as Elizabeth wrote in the first blog. We have just passed the half-way point to Lent and I wanted to encourage everyone to keep pursuing the Lord like never before. Just from reading certain comments on the blog it’s obvious that relationships with Jesus are already being impacted and ignited.

The Lord calls us to search and to be expectant. He wants to reveal His heart to us. As we seek to experience a new level of intimacy with the Lord, He will respond in ways we can’t even imagine. We WILL find Him. God promises in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” As we call on the Lord together daily, let’s prepare to be absolutely blown away by our Father’s love.

Father, I pray that each morning I would wake up in joyful anticipation of how your overwhelming love will be poured out that day. I know you are doing mighty things in my heart and in my life, and I commit this journey of intimacy to you. I thank you for what is to come, for the things I can’t even imagine. You are sovereign and powerful, and I pray that nations would be transformed as this love revolution explodes. I thank you for your perfect timing and I pray that my will would be aligned with yours. God, I love you today. Today is yours.

Loving To Trust His Provision

“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Psalm 91:14-16 (NIV)

Talk about an incredible blessing from the Lord! Throughout Psalm 91 we see the abundant provision, protection, and deliverance that God provides for those who love Him and trust in Him.


All day yesterday I was thinking about how hard it is for me to truly trust the Lord in everything. There are things that I put fully into His hands, and other things that I just can’t surrender. Rather than going to the Lord with my fists clenched tightly, I need to open them up to Him and surrender my heart, my soul, and my life to Him.

God longs to shower us with His unfailing love. Romans 8:31 says, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Not only is God on our side, but He has a perfect plan for us and longs to satisfy us with our hearts’ desires. The more we love Him, the easier it is to trust in Him, and we continue to see more of His plan unfold. Today, may we rest in His incredible promises and confidently trust that He truly desires what is BEST for us!

God, sometimes it is so hard for me to trust you. You are my refuge, my fortress, and my God in whom I trust (Psalm 91:2). I look at your abundant provisions and I’m so grateful. Seeing all of your incredible promises, I can’t believe that I ever have trouble trusting in you, but I confess that sometimes it’s so hard to surrender control. Lord, I pray that I will trust you, call to you, and love you with all of my heart. You alone can satisfy my heart, and I pray that I will trust completely in you.

Loving To Trust

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Do not be like the horse of the mule, which have understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.” Psalm 32:8-10

I’m no expert on marriage, but one thing I’ve heard over and over again is a critical component is trust. Part of a love relationship with anyone is being able to fully trust the other person to take care of you, support you, and look out for you.


I love the analogy of the horse and the mule provided in Psalm 32—can’t you just picture a stubborn mule running all around refusing to be guided? There are so many times in my life when I feel like I’m running in a million different directions and refuse to surrender—I’m too scared to trust and believe that God truly does have a plan for me. (Even as I’m proofreading this entry, I’m reminded of something this morning where I’m not trusting that God has a plan. I want total control and am having a hard time letting go.)

I went to a women’s retreat this weekend and one thing the speaker said that really stuck out to me is that “God’s love is so consuming, He can only have our best interest in mind. Therefore, we have no reason to fear.”

We have no reason to fear and every reason to trust. The more we love someone, the more we want to know them, and the more we know them, the easier it is to trust them. As we continue to fall more in love with the Lord, I pray that we will begin to trust wholeheartedly in His abundant provisions. Psalm 32 says that He will instruct, teach, counsel, and watch over us and when we’re trusting in Him, he will surround us with His unfailing love. May we continue to rest and trust in His abundant provisions!

Lord, I thank you for your all consuming love. I thank you for the way that we can rest in the fact that you are a God who teaches, counsels, instructs, and watches over us. As I read that, I wonder why I ever have trouble trusting you. I’m sorry for the way that I can be stubborn and not surrender everything to you. Lord, I pray for a heart that desires to trust in you completely and acknowledge you in all that I do. Thank you that your word says when I’m trusting in you, you will make my path straight (Proverbs 3:5-6) Lord, I love you! I pray that I will continue to fall more in love with you each day.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4

Last week we looked at God’s unfailing love read about how God takes great delight in us (Zephaniah 3:17). Today, we see the incredible promise that not only does God delight in us, but as we’re delighting ourselves in Him, He will bless us with the desires of our heart.


How do we delight in Him? We rest in His love, we acknowledge the pleasure and joy we experience from His presence, we yearn to know more of Him, and we seek to love Him with all of our hearts.

My prayer for us as we’re desiring to love the Lord more is that our love for Him will continue to grow in our hearts and that delighting in Him daily will be what we long for. As we delight in the Lord, we experience joy and are satisfied in His presence, and we also receive the desires of our hearts. The closer we are to the Lord, the more our hearts’ desires mirror His desires for us.

As we continue to draw closer to the Lord, may we love Him, delight in Him, and pour our desires out to Him; trusting that when we’re delighting in Him, He will bless us with our hearts’ desires.

“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Psalm 62:8 (NIV)

Lord, what a privilege it is to delight in you. Thank you for the way that your presence satisfies my soul. Lord, I want to know you more—I want to be a woman who takes great delight in you. I pray that as I continue to learn what it means to love you and delight in you, that the desires of my heart will mirror your desires for my life. Thank you that you are my Father and in you I have everything I need. Only you can satisfy the desires of my heart. How I love you!

A Strengthened Heart

What an incredible promise!  I love this verse and the idea that God is looking for people with hearts completely dedicated to Him.  I hope that this verse will compel us to be young women who commit our hearts fully to the Lord. 
Father God, how I thank you for this promise.  Lord, when you look at me, I want to be a young woman with a heart fully committed to you.  I know I have a long way to go, but I pray that each day I will choose to commit my heart to you.  Today, may I “devote my heart and soul to seeking you” (1 Chronicles 22:19).

All Of My Heart

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart. I will be found by you.”
Jeremiah 29:13-14

Have you ever lost something that you couldn’t live without? When we lose things that we desperately need, we stop at nothing to find them. In today’s verse, it tells us that we will find God when we seek Him with “all of our heart.”


The wonderful promise that comes with Jeremiah 29:13 is that when we’re truly seeking God with all of our hearts, He will be found! There’s a worship song I love that says, “The more I seek you, the more I find you; the more I find you, the more I love you.”

Today, may we pray for hearts that are fully devoted to the Lord and as we continue to seek after Him, may our hearts delight in loving Him.

Lord, with all my heart, I want to seek you. I’m so sorry that there are times when my heart wanders from you. Help me to make seeking you daily a priority, because I know that it is in seeking you that we find you. I pray that I will have a heart fully devoted to you.

Inconceivable

After spending a week and a half looking at how much God loves us, I hope you continue to experience His love with a fresh, renewed perspective.  May we never forget how incredibly loved we are by our Father!
As we continue on this journey of loving the Lord, it’s important to focus on the incredible blessings that God promises to those who love Him.  Not only does God love us unconditionally, but He longs to shower those who love Him with rich, inconceivable blessings.



Heavenly Father, I can’t even begin to conceive what you have prepared for those who love you.  What an incredible promise!  I want to be a young woman who loves you with all of my heart.  More than anything else in this world, I just want to love you.

Saturday night at church I prayed with a girl who was absolutely distraught over past decisions she had made in an unhealthy relationship. As she clutched my hand and tearfully told her story I wanted somehow to express how much the Lord loved her, regardless of how dirty or miserable she felt. I shared that her sins, once confessed, were completely forgiven and forgotten, and we prayed that she could accept that forgiveness from the Lord and ultimately forgive herself.


I am currently reading a chapter of Proverbs a day, and the next morning I read 17:9 “he who covers over an offense promotes love” which corresponds to the idea that forgiveness is an integral part of love. God is the perfect example of a perfect love that keeps no record of wrongs (1 Cor 13:5). I sometimes mistake guilt for humility, and I resist God’s forgiveness because I know I am not worthy of it. It is impossible for me to comprehend the fact that God separates me completely from my sins, as far as the east is from the west, but if I don’t trust in this truth I am spitting on the cross, not being humble.

God shows His love for us by dying for us while we were still sinners. He has forgiven us and therefore we must forgive our neighbors- and ourselves. While taking responsibility and learning from mistakes is important, we can’t let guilt keep us from boldly approaching the throne of God. We understand that We don’t deserve His affection, but if we truly understand His love it will translate to healthy relationships and a healthy self-image.

Father, thank you for your cleansing, freeing love. Help me to accept your embrace and express your love in all my relationships.

Better Than Life

“Your unfailing love is better to me than life itself; how I praise you!”
Psalm 63:3 (New Living Translation)

In Psalm 63, we see David expressing his longing and desire for more of the Lord. The NIV version of today’s verse declares, “I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and glory.  Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you”


After spending a week and a half dwelling on God’s incredible love, I hope you are beginning to see that God’s perfect love is truly better than life itself.  There is nothing better than His sacrificial, lavish, unfailing, rich, abundant, everlasting, unabandoned, steadfast, delightful love.  May our hearts continue to draw closer to the Lord as we reflect on His unfailing love.

Lord, whom do I have in heaven besides you?  Earth has nothing I desire besides you.  My heart and my flesh may fail, but you are the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:25-26)  Thank you for satisfying me with a love that is better than life.  I pray that I will love you more than I love my own life—there is nothing on this earth that even comes close to comparing with you.

Simply Delightful

The LORD your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” 
Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

How amazing is it to think that God delights in you?!  Sometimes I read this verse and I think, really??  Are you sure you’re talking about me??  The answer is always a resounding YES!  

It doesn’t take much for God to reveal to me time and time again that He is always with me—He is mighty to save me, He delights in me, He is more than able to quiet me with His love, and He rejoices over me with singing—talk about unfailing love!

Lord, thank you for the way that you depict your love for us through Zephaniah 3:17.  What an incredible promise that I can lean on and cling to daily.  The thought that the God of the universe delights in me and loves me is sometimes too much to handle.  Lord, I’m humbled by the way that you love me because I know I don’t deserve it, but I praise you that in the midst of my sin, you still lavish me with your love.  With all that I am—heart, mind, and soul—I long to love you!

Steadfast Love

“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” 
Lamentations 3:22-24 (NIV)
In college, I taped this verse to the keyboard of my laptop as a constant reminder of God’s steadfast love for me.  As I would get worked up and stressed because of my workload, anxieties, failures, and hurts, I just had glance down at my keyboard, take a deep breath, and remind myself of this promise in Lamentations.

Right before this verse, Jeremiah is dwelling on the pain and suffering surrounding him and exclaims, “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope…”

Not only does God love us unconditionally through our triumphs and joys, but He loves us with a fresh, renewed love in the midst of our mistakes, failures, heartaches, and sufferings.  During these times it might seem harder to experience and believe in His love, but take heart that the steadfast love of the Lord NEVER ceases—it is new every morning, great is His faithfulness!

Heavenly Father, thank you that no matter what we’re facing in life, your love is so much bigger!  I confess that sometimes it’s a lot easier for me to rest and believe in your love in the midst of my joys, but I thank you that even in the midst of my sorrows, your love never ceases.  Lord, whether I’m experiencing joy or pain, I pray that my heart will continue to rest in your unfailing love.  No matter what my circumstances are, even when I’m hurting, may my heart never stop desiring to love and be loved by you.

Unabandoned Love

I will betroth you in faithfulness and you will acknowledge the Lord”

What little girl doesn’t dream of her ideal wedding? Since I was old enough to know what a wedding was, the idea of dressing up in a beautiful white dress, walking down the aisle into the arms of my true love, publicly declaring our love for one another, and riding off into the sunset to live “happily ever after” has always been my heart’s desire.


Whether single or married, as young women, we have been wired with hearts that long for love. The book of Hosea is an incredible analogy of God’s faithful love for us. The way Hosea portrays God’s love for us is incredible—no matter how many times we turn away and run after other things, God never stops loving us. Each time we run back into His arms, he is ready to love us unconditionally.

Today’s verse is such a beautiful picture of God’s bridal, unabandoned love. I pray that as we meditate on it today, we will experience God’s incredible love, compassion, and faithfulness. May we know how truly loved we are!

“Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves in heard in our land…All beautiful you are my darling; there is no flaw in you…you have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. Lord Jesus, once again, as I reflect on your incredible love for me, I really can’t believe it. Your love satisfies the deepest longings of my heart. Thank you for the perfect way that you love me. Thank you that your word says that I am betrothed to you in “righteousness, justice, love, and compassion.” Today, I pray for a heart devoted to loving you.

Everlasting Love

 
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

In case you didn’t know, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner…while many of us are busy cutting out doilies and eating mysterious pink filled chocolates, let’s not forget to dwell on God’s incredible love for us.
 
Not only does our “love challenge” parallel with Lent, but it also coincides with the world’s “season of love.” Today and tomorrow as we’re writing our Valentines, wearing our pink sweaters, and longing for love, may we remember that no matter who loves us on earth, God loves us with an everlasting love.
 
Three years ago, I claimed Jeremiah 31:3 as my “Valentine from the Lord.” As cheesy as that might sound, it was amazing to rest in His everlasting, abundant, and lavish love. God’s love is perfect—today, may we feel and experience His incredible love for us.

Father God, thank you for your perfect love. Sometimes my heart is desperately seeking love from so many different directions, but you are the only one whose love is everlasting. When my heart is longing for love, may YOU be the first place that I run. Only you have the ability to satisfy the deepest longings of my heart. Lord, with all that I am, I long to love you. Thank you for the way that you love me.

Great Love, Rich Mercy

 
“But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5 (NIV)

As I was looking at this verse, I started reading different versions to see how they were worded. I thought each version was so rich, that they were all worth sharing. It’s the same theme, but seeing it phrased differently helps to deeply depict God’s incredible love and mercy.


New Living Translation
“But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)”


The Amplified Bible
“But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us,
Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation).”

The Message

“It wasn’t so long ago that you were mired in that old stagnant life of sin. You let the world, which doesn’t know the first thing about living, tell you how to live. You filled your lungs with polluted unbelief, and then exhaled disobedience. We all did it, all of us doing what we felt like doing, when we felt like doing it, all of us in the same boat. It’s a wonder God didn’t lose his temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, he embraced us. Father, I thank you for your grace and mercy. I am so unworthy of your grace, but I am so grateful for the way you shower me with your love and mercy. Without your love, I would still be dead in my sins. Thank you for the life that you have given me through your son Jesus Christ! May I never take this gift for granted. Today, more than anything, may my heart seek after loving you.

Unfailing Love

How comforting to know that no matter what we’ve done, what we’ll do, where we’ve been, and where we’ll go, the Lord will never stop loving us. May this promise refresh our souls as we continue to delight His love!



Lord, I praise you for your unfailing love. Thank for the compassion that you bestow upon me daily. I am so grateful for your perfect love. As I continue to reflect on your unconditional love, my heart is bursting with love for you. More than I pray to breathe my next breath, I pray that I would love you with all of my heart. May you be my heart’s number one desire.

Lavish Love

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children on God! And that is what we are!”

I love the phrase “lavish love”—it just rolls right of the tongue! Today, as a beloved children of God, may we rest in the lavish love that He has for each on of us and continue to learn what it means to be unconditionally loved by our Father.



Lord, thank you that I am your child. Thank you for the lavish love that you bestow upon me daily. As a child of God, I long to love you with all of my heart. As I seek after you, will you continue to reveal to me more of what it looks like to love you wholeheartedly? More than anything else today, I long to love you!

The Ultimate Gift

Do you know how much the God of the Universe loves you?!? He sent His Son to die for us! This isn’t something we earned—it’s because of His love for each one of us. As we seek to love more of the Lord, may we may we never take the love God shows us through the gift of His Son for granted.

Lord, thank You for the incredible gift of Your Son! Thank You that in the midst of my sin, You still love me and You chose to die for me. As I continue to reflect on Your incredible love, may my heart be drawn closer and closer to You. Today, may You be my heart’s number one desire.

His Love For Us

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NIV) 
As a little girl, I remember memorizing the words of John 3:16. My mom would give us lollipops when we memorized Bible verses, so it was a pretty sweet deal. Since then, I have it heard it over and over again in Sunday school, church camp, TV, the man passing out evangelism tracts on the street, etc…it’s one of the most widely recognized verses in the Bible. Sadly, in its repetition, many times I overlook the life changing meaning behind it—God loved each one of us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for us, so that we may live eternally with Him. 


In learning what it means to love the Lord, it’s important to begin by looking at why we fell in love with God in the first place. The Bible says, “We love, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). The Word of God is filled with scripture that declares the incredible love He has for His children.


Throughout my life as a Christian, there have been times where I feel like I’ve hit a wall—I find myself blindly going through motions and often times forgetting why these things are even important to me. I try to appear as though I have everything together, but really my actions are not in line with my heart. As hard as it is to admit, there are many times when I lose sight of who God is and how much He loves me.


That’s why it’s important to start at the beginning and be reminded of how much God truly loves us! In praying to love God wholeheartedly, we need to start by looking at His unfailing love for us. There’s no better place to start than meditating on the unconditional love that God shows us through the message of the Gospel—that truly is the greatest love story ever told.


As we begin, may we take this week to be reminded of the unconditional love God shows us through the gift of Jesus Christ.


Lord, thank you for the way that you love me. Thank you for saving me through the gift of your Son. I am so unworthy of the love that you bestow upon me, but I are so grateful that You do. As I continue to look at your love for me, may my heart begin to overflow with love for You. More than anything in this world, I long to love you!

Getting Started

Nearly five years ago, I had the chance to attend a women’s conference led by my one of my “spiritual heroes.” As a first year in college, I was so excited to spend a weekend with a woman who had challenged and encouraged my faith with her books, Bible studies, and teachings. I couldn’t wait for this incredible opportunity!

Her following mainly consists of forty-fifty year old moms and many times through her studies I’ve been asked to pray to love my children or work on serving my husband, but nonetheless, God has used her words and her teachings to speak to my heart. My sister Laura and I were by far the youngest girls at the conference and we didn’t exactly fit in, but I was just delighted to be there. Several of the moms and grandmothers would ask us how we felt about arranged marriages, because they had a son we just HAD to meet…doesn’t everyone have a son, or a grandson, or a husband’s cousin’s friend that you just HAVE to meet?!? (On a side note, my older sister is now married because of someone’s “friend’s son,” so you might want to think twice before rejecting a blind date)


Towards the end of the conference there was a question and answer session with the speaker—this was my chance to ask her anything I wanted! I thought for the whole conference about what I was going to ask her. I slowly stepped up to the microphone and asked, “If there was once piece of advice you could give to younger women, what would that be?”

 
She replied, “What I’m going to tell you is something that I would tell anyone: Pray every single day of your life to love the Lord your God more than you pray to breathe your next breath. And if you earnestly pray that prayer for six months and don’t see a radically, transformed life, than you should walk away…and I’ll walk away with you, because it’s just not possible. The scripture is very clear, ‘We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.’ (Romans 8:28) But that verse is a conditional verse—not just for everyone’s good, but for those who love him.”

 
Five years later, those words have never left me. I’ve told that story to many of my friends to encourage them to seek after loving the Lord, I’ve prayed that prayer multiple times through the years, but I’ve never truly accepted the challenge. I think the longest I’ve gone consecutively praying the prayer was about 20 days, but never a month, never two months, and certainly never for six months. Recently, I asked myself, how different would my life look like if I truly prayed every day of my life to love the Lord my God more than I pray to breathe? Would God really radically transform my life? Am I really up for the challenge?


Sometimes as young women, we’re so set on trying to figure everything out. We want immediate answers to all of life’s questions—Where should I go to college? What should I major in? Where should I live? Who should I marry? What’s my purpose in life? At the same time as trying to figure out every detail of our lives, we can also become consumed with trying to figure out how to be/appear like the “perfect Christian”—Did I have my quiet time today? How do I love my neighbor? Why do I have to obey my parents? Are my actions holy and pure? Am I taming my tongue? Am I tithing enough money? How am I involved at church? Am I glorifying the Lord?

While there is nothing wrong with these questions, it is so easy to get caught up in our futures and trying to live the “Christian life”, when God has so much more for us! In our pursuit to figure out the answers to everything, we forget to listen to the words of Jesus when he says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your souls and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.” (Matthew 23:37) More than anything else, we just need to love Him.

I have decided that the time has come to stop talking about some nice words a woman told me five years ago, and to begin living them out. To say every day, “Lord more than my life, my job, my future, I just want to love you!”



I’ve also been thinking about how incredible it would be if a group of girls accepted this challenge together. I know I can’t do this on my own…it’s taken me five years to even think about doing this, and three months to send this e-mail. This is something I’ve been thinking about and praying about for several months and this morning I felt God say, “Stop thinking about it and do it.”

I wish I could tell you I know exactly what this is going to look like, to be honest I haven’t gotten that far. I also wish I could tell you that I have a verse about loving the Lord to share with you every day from now until August—that’s a long time! I think the forty days of Lent is a great place to start and then I say we take it one day at a time. The last thing I want is to get so caught up with everything that I become consumed with finishing “the challenge” and miss out on truly learning what it means to love the Lord. Whether it’s forty days, six months, or a lifetime, I know that if we’re seeking to love Him with all of hearts, we’re going to find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).



I’m excited and expectant to see how God is going to move as young women begin to pray daily for hearts wholly devoted to loving God. The rich, abundant blessings that God has in store for those who love Him is far beyond anything that we could ever ask for or imagine. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Lord for six months, may I seek to learn what it means to love you. I want to love your word, your voice, your presence, your laws, your discipline, your power—I want to love and cherish every part of who you are. Lord, may I wait expectantly as you begin to transform my life by my willingness to wholeheartedly seek to love you with an unabandoned love.
